service pack installation

I am still a relative novice when it comes to computers. I bought a Palm Tungsten C and I am having difficulty achieving a hot sync. Everyone I call claims it is someone else's problem - Palm says I need Service Pack 1a and to contact Dell. Dell says I need to contact Microsoft. Microsoft says it is Dell's problem. I get through to the site for downloading Service Pack 1a and follow all the instructions but nothing happens except to become increasingly frustrated. How can I download Service Pack 1a to my desktop?
