I downloaded the service pack 1 and it hung up on the
installation. I didn't realize that I needed to disable
my virus software, and did that partway through the
installation. After one hour and a half I closed the
windows update window that said processing the updates
and restarted the computer - I thought it was stuck. Is
there a way to tell if the installation is complete? I
restored to an earlier time because the computer seemed
sluggish. I was going to reinstall at this earlier
restore point, but update is down. Should I reinstall at
an earlier point than my original download or uninstall
the service pack and reinstall? Downloads are so
frustrating to me! Thanks!

Hi, Carol,
Disable your Anti-virus software.
Down load ServicePack 1 (which usually only takes a few minutes)
and let the Install run without interference ( which takes up to an hour)
Don't press any keys until the install is completed,
it will restart automatically without you pressing any keys
Go shopping, or take a nap.

Good Luck,
Jerry

You can go to system properties(click the windows key +
pause/break key)and click on general tab.listed under
systems should be your operating system, version, and under
version should be listed service pack 1...if
installed. Also, you can go to Windows update and click on
history and it should show all that you downloaded. Check
for it there. If not,re-download.You can also go to
Microsofts catalog page and buy the CD version for about
$10....Good luck.

P.S. The service pack will be listed on your screen along with your Windows
Version.
When it is completely installed.
