First, if you are kind enough to reply, please replace
the 'six' in my address to the number '6'.....in other
words jbrown6 at flash.net

My Dell Inspiron came preloaded with Office 2000...I
downloaded a more current version of Adobe than my 3.0.1
and it will not load, says to install service pack 2

Went to MS website, saw that I needed 4, launched download
(I have a phone modem....aaargh!). Download began to hang
after an hour...kept resetting and downloading a small
bit, then resetting even farther back in the download.
Repeatedly gave a message to read problemsolving section
on MS website which of course is not to be found.

Tried same thing with Service pack 2, same problem.

Any ideas what to try other than paying Microsoft $9.95
for them to mail me a cd with CORRECTIONS TO THEIR
PROGRAMMING MISTAKES? The nerve of MS is amazing.

Thanks very much in advance,
Jeff in Texas

Jeff,

In a word, your screwed. Without Broadband access, it is
virtually impossible to keep up with the MS patches.
Example...a clean install of Windows 2000 will then
require 70-80MB worth of patches.

sorry dude
Mark,

Use Kazaa to find and download the patches! Downloading
through Kazaa means no resetting problems, as the program
really manages downloading superbly.

If the connection goes down (or your peer leaves the
network) you will start again at the exactly the same
point. I once spent 12 days downloading a specific file
from a person who only seemed to spend a couple of hours
per day online! No problems.
