Hello,

Can anyone give me some advice. I get "Service Pack 4 Setup cannot
update a checked (debug) system with a free (retail) version of
Service Pack 4, or vice versa." This happens everytime I try and run
and install W2KSP4_EN.EXE.

Thanks.

The error message seems fairly self-explanatory. I'll assume you're trying
to install the retail service pack on a debug version, in which case you
need
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/downloads/servicepacks/SP4/SP4build/default.asp
If that's what you've already been trying, you need
http://www.microsoft.com/Windows2000/downloads/servicepacks/sp4/download.asp#express

From the message text, either you're updating a debug system with a
non-debug SP, or a standard system with a debug SP.

If you currently have the standard version of SP4, use the debug version; if
you have the debug version of SP4, use the standard. There are two
versions..

Just how can you tell which version of W2k you are running and which SP4 you
have?

If you have your desktop populated with clickable icons such as My Computer,
IE, etc right click on My Computer select Properties at the bottom of the
menu and in the first tab,General, you'll see a category named System. It
tells you the OS, version and SP #
