I just went to updates and everything was fine but service pack 3
failed because I don't have the Microsoft Word 2002 disk or at least
I cant find it. When I bought this pc it came from Dell with all the
bells and whistles installed, I got no disks with it.
What do I do or should I not worry about it?
Hi - there's no SP3 for Windows XP, which is what this newsgroup is for.
I'm presuming you're using Microsoft Update, and are having problems
downloading/installing Office XP SP3. If so, and you don't have your
installation media, you can probably download the full SP3 files here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...289-8BD1-EB966BCDFB5E&displaylang=en#filelist
Download the second one (fullfile) and install it manually. The next time
you run Microsoft Update, it shouldn't prompt you for that update/SP again.
That said, I believe Dell usually gives you a CD ...or an installation image
on the hard drive that you can burn to a CD. It's a good idea to have your
Windows and Office media handy in case of disaster.
NB: in the future, you should post Windows/Microsoft Update related
questions in microsoft.public.windowsupdate, or Office questions in one of
the Office groups. These are all much easier/better to use if you don't use
the MS web interface but use a news client application (Outlook Express will
do) and subscribe to the groups you wish, using news.microsoft.com as your
NNTP server. No logon authentication is required.
