Ok... I installed Service pack 3 on a clean install of XP.  I now
don't have the calculator in my accessories, nor any games.  Any
suggestions on how to extract these basic items from my XP CD?Thank
you,JIM

calc.exe is restored with the SFC /scannow command. Games are put in with a
checkbox in add/remove. I would go to start/run, and type 'calc' or 'sol' to
see if you just lack the shortcuts on the start menu. Rightclick the start
button, and 'explore', rightclick a menu folder and 'new', then 'shortcut'
to rebuild them.

Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately they don't appear to be
installed, using the 'calc' in the run command shows the file not
found.

Perhaps I am in the wrong forum, but I could use a bit more detail on
using the SFC /scannow command to restore.

After that, please give me a link for a less advance user forum where
my questions are more appropriate.

Thank again.

This is the place.

sfc is run from a Command Prompt. start/run, type:

CMD

and at that prompt:

sfc /scannow

The add/remove app is in Control Panel, and when you use the 'add a windows
component' section, there is an 'accessories' area, the 'details' lets you
see the Games' checkboxes, and
unchecking the item,
restart windows,
recheck the item,
restart,

should restore the games to the start menu.
