Is there any way of turning off notification of windows xp
service pack 2? From all that I have read it is not worth
download and installation.

To avoid that Automatic Updates tries to install SP2 (up to 16. April
2005):

I would say that it's well worth it, provided your software is up to date
and your system is pre-cleaned of malware/viruses etc.
