Service Pack 2 SP2

Hi

I installed SP2 the other day and have had a severe slow down in performance.

I use Zonelarm Firewall and McAfee Virus Protection & K9 Spam Blocker, other
than that it's mainly Microsoft & MacroMedia Applications.

I have a Standard 2.0 GHz Intel P4 in an IDeq 200T PC with 512 of Corsair
Memory. It worked very nicely BEFORE the update.

I have Elisa ADSL 512 (Finland's main telephone company).

Is it worth uninstalling and re-installing or is this a general problem.

The main gripes are
- Internet Explorer is slower (opening and browsing).
- Most applications (e.g. Macromedia Fireworks, Outlook, Word) open and
operate much slower.

Does anyone else have the same problems or is it just me or my PC?

Thanks,
John.

john,

actually, i also have experienced some slowness after installing sp2. but
after a few reboots and restarts, my windows xp is back to its previous
speed.

hoping that your previous speed will return after a few days.

regards!

Yes I've also experienced a lot of slowness since the upgrade to SP2.
I have a P4 3.1 Ghz, with 1gig of PC2700 DDR and my Internet Explorer
is also slow opening and browsing. Mostly just browsing. It actually
seems to lockup IE for up to 15 seconds before finishing to load the
rest of the webpage. It does this constantly. Even on pages I've
already cached locally.

I have other programs that I run regularily that are performing much
slower than before as well.

Anyone else having problems like this? I hope I'm not the only one.

I also experienced the same thing plus slow and incomplete reboots... until
I did a complete C: and D: Defrag!

After that the system seems so far to be back to the speed it was before.

Hope this helps.

DWK )

This is because the PreFetch information is no longer valid. That has
provided optimisation in the past, over things like boot and program
loading (so that all modules get loaded straight off, without waiting
to be asked for). The PreFetch folder is therefore deleted and needs
rebuilding; defrag, reboot, wait a few days with a couple of reboots at
least, and it will be well on the way to rebuilding the optimisation
