Anyone know if it is going to have the ability to add trusted IP addresses
to a list of allowed connections.
At the very least one ought to be able to allow non-routable IP addresses.
If not then it's nearly as useless as the current firewall that kills my
peer to peer home network.

XP's firewall is not very user friendly and i would have thought that the
service pack will be concentrating upon vulnerabilities other than the
firewall. Why not try another firewall such as Zone Alarm. There is a free
version of this available from www.zonelabs.com I have used the free version
and the pro version for many years without any problems. The xp firewall was
only meant to give basic protection.

Hope this helps

I've been using NIS for many years now and used @guard before that so I have
a firewall installed.
Sp2 from what I gather is going to install an updated firewall to XP whether
you like it or not.
I've read that it will control flow in and out and will automatically be
turned on with no indication as to whether it can be turned off easily. If
there is no way to create an access control list to allow other trusted
peer's then it's still useless to anyone with a network.
Go to any of the network newsgroups with a problem and one of the first
things they tell you is to turn off the XP firewall if you have it on.
What's the sense in upgrading the firewall if the majority of people are
going to turn it off after the first problem they have with it.
