Hello Everyone. I've been using movie maker for the past 3 months now and
its worked great. However two weeks ago my computer auto updated. Ever
since movie maker has been trouble. When ever I start the program and start
movie editing it works great for the first 5 minutes or so. But then,
randomly, it freezes and I have to reboot to restore good performance. Was
there some recent update that might be causing problems. I've tried movie
maker on my other computers, they have the updates as well, and it freezes
there too. Whats going on? My system specs are as follows : Intel (R)
Pentium (R) 4 CPU 3.00 GHz 1.00 GB of Ram . I believe its more then
capable since it rarely freezes when movie maker is not running. If anyone
has suggestions or ideas please respond. Thanks a lot for all your help.

Your statement that:
I can not do a system restore because a few days ago I Reinstalled XP.

is in contrast to your earlier statements about applying windows updates...

If you appled windows updates and then re-installed windows xp then you have
lost all your updates. If you have applied your updates after a fresh
install of xp then the updates are ok but ur problem description is
completely wrong.

As for your "actual" problem here are a few possible solutions:

1. Go to papajohn.org and read through Problem Solving section.
and/or
2. Apply the windows xp SP2 (266 MB download)

The Problem is SP2... It will ultimately crash your entire system, and when
you try to retrieve Movie Maker, it will try to forcefeed Movie maker 2.1 &
SP2 again, and it has hidden the trusty MM2 that we are all used too, but SP2
will cause many more problems. I am said to say that I contributed to this
fallout by initially distributing and installing this service Pack, but now
repair techs are raking in more funds in a month removing this service pack
than they have in all other repairs combined. If you restore your system,
and click on the MM2 links, it will try to force-feed you Movie Maker 2.1 and
SP2 as a requirement. DO NOT DO THIS... DO NOT USE SP2...EVER... IF YOU
HAVE, REPLY TO THIS POST, or email to (e-mail address removed)... this is Win 98
ALL OVER AGAIN!!!. i FINALLY FOUND THE DOWNLOAD FOR MOVIE MAKER 2 FOR SP1...
tucked away nicely in downloads.com... IF YOU HAVE A RESTORE POINT CREATED
BEFORE THE UPDATE... BACK UP ANYTHING YOU CANNOT RETRIEVE LATER & ROLLBACK TO
SP1... YOU WILL ONLY FING OUR TRUSTY LITTLE MOVIE MAKER FOR sp1 HERE:

AS FAR AS i CAN, just reply.

Now, wait a minute! I've experiences couple of problems with SP2 and did,
indeed, uninstall it. The first was the failure of my USB2 ports to work.
What a battle! In the end I did a clean install of XP AND SP2. All the
problems disappeared.

The next problem was the failure of MM2 to recognize my Sony Digital
camcorder. In the end, I uninstalled SP2 and installed SP1a. Didn't help
one bit. Then I ran across a tip to reinstall Windows Media Player. It
worked!

It seems that whenever there's a tough problem to solve, SP2 gets the blame.
This is natural since it's new and so little is known about it. But your
rant is way over the top. Let's hope you had your tongue firmly planted in
your cheek.

Otherwise post your concrete evidence. We're all waiting.
