Service pack 1 - Downloaded but 89mb?

Lets see if I got this right
Downloaded SP1 & installer starts looking at the configuration
starts install but 89mb to be installed time required in excess of 800 min
And has to be online .
Download completes but installer still running 65mb & 580 minutes to go
Failed a number of times & a pop-up dialogue box indicated that there is a way to install offline
directed me to troubleshooter but no joy
Anyone with any ideas

89MB seems rather large, the typical size for an online install is about 30
MB.
Is there anything special about your system ?

What you could do, is download the full service pack, this contains
everything, and hence is 134MB, however, you can then do the installation
manually.

Do not use Express Installation.
You can order Service Pack 1a CD from:

Or:
Download the Network Installation from here: (be sure to select the
correct language)
Also select "Windows XP Professional and Home Edition" Do NOT select
64 bit.

DSL takes about 20 minutes, if you do not have high speed access, get
a friend to D/L SP1a for you.
Then burn it to a CD and keep for the future.
