After some remote users login to my Win2000 server the
servers disappear from My Network Places. Later they
reappear. Can anyone tell me why? Thanks.

Sounds like a problem with the master browser if you are on a domain. This
is typically the PDC and Microsoft has some tools to troubleshoot this. I
cannot recall exactly where it is on their site, but search "master brower
problems" or "unable to browse" on their site. Hope that helps...

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction guys. I'll
do some more reading. What is known about XP clients
causing election problems? Dave

I agree with the master browser diagnosis, but does not necessarily need to be in a
domain. The master browsers could be having "election wars" in which that master
browser is frequently changing [XP clients are known for this]. Multi homed master
browsers and misconfigured wins servers and clients are also another common
roblem. --- Steve

Hi Dave. I have read about more than a few instances where a XP computer boots
up and causes a browser election and assumes the master browser role from a
dedicated server, I guess because it is a later operating system which carries
weight in browser elections. You can look in your wins database if using one] to
see who are the master browsers. Disabling the computer browser service on any
computer will prevent it from becoming a master browser. --- Steve
