'Morning all,
I'm not sure if this is even the correct forum for my
question, but I've been having some issues with the native
Windows Server 2000 Backup utility (Tape backups in
particular) and I was wondering if there're any straight-
forward explanations out there that I could be directed
to. The whole mess is confusing as heck and while I
certainly understand the difference between Media Pools,
Physical locations and the like, trying to get a simple,
step-by-step plan for swapping tapes effectively is as
difficult as coaxing a dollar bill out of Mr. Gates'
clenched fist.
I'm using Travan Tapes (I know, I know), and to insert a
new tape and prepare it is no big deal, it's when I want
to reuse an older tape and rename it, get it to be
recognized by the machine and perform the backup that the
difficulty arises.
I went so far as to purchase Mastering Windows 2000
Server (for a number of other issues as well), and while
the book is excellent, the section on Tape Backup (using
the native Backup software) is... well... confusing.
Sometimes I get it to work, and other times (using the
exact same procedure, by the way) I don't.
Is there a straightforward explanation that one of you
could direct me to that spells it out in black and white?
(and please don't point me to the Help file... it's
worthless, as you probably already know).
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks in advance,
