server won't respond

when i try to sent mail out using windows mail i get a message that my smtp
server did not respond in 90 sec in
gmail.com
how can i fix this

Without you posting the error message and codes
one can only make a guess so....

It could well be antivirus software playing up.

Many people are screwed by, for instance, Norton and McAfee.

Could you be another victim?

What is the complete error message?

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
Outlook Express and should be uninstalled.
