I am interested in setting up a server on PC running XP
Home Edition, 512RAM, 80GB HD. Is this doable and if so,
is it simple to do?

Thanks

Hi, Roy. The answer depends entirely on what you want the "server" to
do. XP Home Edition can share its files, printers, and Internet
connection with other computers on a network. It can't act as a logon
server, store user profiles, enforce security or group policy, etc.
It doesn't have a built-in web server, but you can get a third-party
program for that purpose.

Hi

Do you mean a web server? If you do it's certainly 'doable', have a look
here http://www.apachefriends.org/index-en.html at the XAMPP download.
There are two version available a 'development' system with everything you
need and a 'mini' version.

I have this set-up on an XP Home test PC and it runs without problems.

Thank you for your response. I want to have the server
for local use only to enable me to test web site designs
developed in Dreamweaver, and to evaluate software
designed to run on servers. The PC will not be dedicated
to server function.

Is that the way you use yours?

Thanks
