HI Guys,

Our production server (win 2k + sp4) restarts automatically everyday, around
00:00:00ish every day, with out leaving any trace in event logs, its not
creating any memory dump as well. What could be causing this, is there any
way i can trace what happening

Thanks

I would stay up and watch what's happening.

If no BSOD's occur (Event ID: 1001 Source: Save Dump), then it may be a
power problem. I would look at a possible faulty (or undersized) pc power
supply, UPS, bad battery, or the circuit feeding the outlet that the pc is
plugged into. This assumes the event log files aren't corrupt.

Hi Dave

Thanks for the replay. Our system has got 2 power supplies, so don’t think
that is the reason. The real funny thing is, this happens during the off peak
hours only, I mean when there is no much server activities happening.

Thanks

The event log files may be corrupt hence you're not logging the BSOD.
Control Panel|Administrative Tools|Services|Event Log Service|General, set
the "Startup Type:" to "Disabled" restart the pc, then delete (or move) the
corrupt *.evt file(s) from %systemroot%\system32\config then set the Event
Log Service "Startup Type:" back to "Automatic", restart for effect.
