server requirements question

Hi group,

I would appreciate some advice on a server I'd like to use here.

What hardware would be best, in terms of speed, if I'd like to use a windows
based web server solution like I currently have.

I am running windows 2000 server, have apache/php/mysql installed.

mysql is used intensively. Already found comments on Celeron Processors not
performing very well for sql. Would Xeon, P-IV would be better?

Yes, of course they would. Celeron is nothing more than a budget
"engine" to get a system running, if you want higher performance
then naturally you'll have to pay for it. Any old CPU is more
than enough for typical file serving so concentrate on the SQL,
seek benchmarks for the CPUs you are considering.
 
Serving all from Ramdisk. Beats 10.000 rpm by far.

And, sorry...didn't know you could boot from a ram disk.

Hey Trent,

Thanks for your input anyway. I am not talking 'bout booting the thing
either. If that takes 5 minutes, I can live with that. It's the performance
on the database I am wondering about.

Noon knows I guess?
