We recently bought a Prolaint DL380 that was configured with 5GB of memory.
I installed Win2k AS and noticed it was only reporting 3.5GB before I put in
the /PAE switch. I figured it was just a glitch so I put in the /PAE switch
in the boot.ini and now it only reports 4.5GB. Is there a reason it does
this? Will it use the full 5GB anyways?

You should verify with Compaq for sure but the "lost" memory is likely
caused by memory taken by a hardware component at boot time prior to the
Kernel seeing the system. Some hardware (not only Compaq) grabs system
memory at boot and it keeps it. When the kernel loads it gets what's left.

Search Compaq's site for a whitepaper Allocation of Main Memory Resources
in ProLiant Servers. If it's still available this should be the explanation
you need.
