You should verify with Compaq for sure but the "lost" memory is likely
caused by memory taken by a hardware component at boot time prior to the
Kernel seeing the system. Some hardware (not only Compaq) grabs system
memory at boot and it keeps it. When the kernel loads it gets what's left.
Search Compaq's site for a whitepaper Allocation of Main Memory Resources
in ProLiant Servers. If it's still available this should be the explanation
you need.

| We recently bought a Prolaint DL380 that was configured with 5GB of
memory.
