Server keeps rebooting

We have a Windows 2000 advenced server running sp3 that
seems to reboot at will... There are no programs installed
on the server that are scheduled to reboot the server. The
only error in event viewer is error 6008. Anyone have any
ideas on what the problem could be???

Have you tried making blue screen STOP errors no reboot
your computer automatically? You can do this by right
clicking on your my computer and going to properties, and
then clicking on the advanced tab.

Have you tried installing the latest service pack to see
if that fixes the problem? Otherwise, you might want to

If you don't see the event "the computer restarted after a bugcheck",
then it means that you never got a BSOD, which means the OS never got
the chance to write an event to the EventLog.
You could try to configure the system to halt (not reboot
automatically) after a critical STOP error to verify this.

It usually indicates a hardware problem. I would run all the hardware
diagnostic software that came with your server and check the power
supply.

I recently had a server react the same way. I later found

out that it was the MSBlaster Virus. You might want to
make sure that you have the latest Virus Pattern File and
do a SCAN.
 
Then I would go for the hardware failure theory first. The Blaster
virus is also a possibility as someone else suggested, but the
instances of Blaster that I have seen leave an event in the
EventLog about an RPC service failure.
 
The server has been up solid for 24 hours now after
applying service pack 4... However I still have problems
with the screen saver. No screen saver is configured yet
after 20 mins or so it turn on the screen saver and it
won't come out when I hit the spacebar... I found this
article Q232286. But there is no fix... Any ideas???
 
And you are sure that it really is a screen saver kicking in
(which screen saver?) and that the server is not hanging?
Can you get out of the screen saver by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del and
then "unlock computer"? This happens when you are logged in on the
console, correct?
When this happens, can you start a TS session and check in Task
manager which status the screen saver process is in?
What happens if you set a (different) screen saver, with a
different time limit?
