We have 2 nodes on this cluster, and I applied service
pack to the other node, since the first one never
restarted, I have not shutdown the other, so all the
resources are running on the other.
Is it possbile to remove the service pack on the other
before restarting?
I have tried to ping the server which has failed to come
up, I get a reply. But I can't access anything on it,
Safe mode? I would try safe mode without network support
and see if it is a cluster issue that is causing the
problem. I would want to see if it could start by itself
without communicating with its cluster partner.
Alternatively I guess you could try to start the system
with the network cables unpluged.
I am thinking that the continual rebooting is caused by
the system setting to reboot on failure. I would try to
get in and turn that off if possible. Then I would look
up the file that is causing the blue screen and figure out
what specificly is failing.
As far as the other system is concerned, you can alway do
a system state restore over the service pack
installation. Then when you reboot after the restore, it
will be at the previous system state rather than at the
service pack 4 state. In fact, I might be tempted to just
go ahead and restore from back up the other system, too.
For future reference Microsoft Knowledge Base Article -
174799 describes the procedure for applying service packs
to clusters.
Thanks for help!
I tried to boot thro' all the options available on safe
mode-never worked.
Unfortunately, I have no backup of system files to restore.
I followed the step from the microsoft article, except
doing the backup of registry before applying- BLUNDER!!!
