Hello
I get getting the following error

(Account: 'pop.embarqmail.com (1)', Server: 'pop.embarqmail.com',
Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR Mate, try: USER <username>', Port:
110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC91),

and today I have talked to Embarq, Microsoft, Hewlert Pacard, Embarq (again)
and then HP again to try and resolve this problem to no avail, up until two
days ago it worked fine but now nothing and no one seems to be able to help
me they just keep telling me it is someone else's problem. I even downloaded
Thunderbird's e-mail program and tried it, it didn't work either, so if you
find a solution please let me know.
Thank you

Hi Evelyn
I was getting the same message...
I'm not sure what I did but I finally got mine to work, and am now able to
download my e-mail I did go to my Nortons and under Firewall procesing I hit
page default so not sure if that had anything to do with it or not, all I do
know is I have spent all day on this computer trying to get it fixed.

Insufficient information. Which email program are you using?
Right-click on the error message, copy, then paste into a reply here.

Your problem statement is merged with the one you quoted
(by "fishinfool") to the point where it is difficult to ascertain
where yours begins.
Anyway, it looks like you have the name of the incoming (POP3)
mail server wrong. It can not be named "imap". You will need to
get the name of your incoming mail server from your ISP.
Assuming that Comcast is your ISP, they say here
http://www.comcast.net/help/faq/index.jsp?faq=Hot117481
that the incoming mail server is mail.comcast.net.
