What does "Server error: Cannot create folder "_vti_cnf" mean? I've asked
our server (Bright.net) to look into it, but they have said there is no
problem on their end. When I click OK to close the error pop-up menu,
FrontPage says my last publish was canceled, although it appears all the
updates are successful.

Any advice/help would be much appreciated.

Have you asked your host to run a server-health check for your account and/or check the permissions
for your account?

No, I wasn't sure what the error meant or what to ask for (I'm a real web
novice...)
What will the "server health-check" do for our site?

Should re-set/correct the permissions for your account so that you can publish.
