I have been trying to open my website files in frontpage to edit and I keep
getting a server error: cannot open file "service.lck " for writting. What
could have caused this? A few months back I downloaded some updated for my
frontpage 2000.
SR1, ect

Either ask the host to give it writing permissions, or to delete it and it
will be recreated.

Thank you for your help tom. I contacted my host and they checked everything
on there end and said it is working fine. They told me it must be a problem
on my end with my frontpage settings. I have my website file(frontpage)
saved on cd and what I am trying to do is pull the files and open them from
the cd into frontpage and that is when I get the error. Is there anything
else I can try on the frontpage end. The website is my business, so I'm
getting a bit nervous that I can't access it. I really don't want to have to
build the whole site over.

If the files are on a CD-R, created with a CD burning program, they will be read
only. Try copying/publishing to your hard drive and check the attributes to be
sure they are writable. If that works, then what Tom suggested is enforced I
think. Tom ?

I concur, Mike.
