I am in the process of switching hosts, and when I try and publish my site
from my computer I get the follwing error: "cgi-bin not related to page or
folder in web. may be a bad link"

would I be better of just publishing directly from my current host? online
to online?

You new host may not allow a cgi-bin folder, so in your local copy, right
click and convert to a subweb, then publish your site, do not check include
subwebs.

Because if they do not support the cgi-bin, by making it a subweb it will
not be published, unless you select the Include Subwebs option under
publish. So in this case you don't want to publish it. If you have other
subwebs, you will have to publishing them individually which is what I
always recommend anyway.

You need to contact the host or check your ISP connection.
