Whenever I try to contact a website email address I normally click their
hyperlinked address and my (msn) webmail page automatically opens ready to
send.

Instead I am now getting this message every time....'Server error in '/'
Application',accompanied by the message 'Error 404 Http.......'

I have tried temporarily dsiabling the Windows Firewall and pop-up blocker
to no avail. (XP SP2-ie6)

Have my settings got messed up or is there a problem elsewhere?

Yours Mystified,

flo

Hi Linda,
Thanks for your reply.
I found and tried your 'workaround' but I just get a blank page!!
Thanks 'though.

My account is an 'msn' rather than 'hotmail'.

I get the feeling that this is a recent glitch? I wish they'd leave things
alone....now I have to go through the faff of writing down the address and
openining the account manually.
Thats not what its supposed to be like is it?

Yrs.

I have just opened a Hotmail account and the workaround seems to work for
that.....not for msn though?

Hello,

Do you know of the same fix for the same problem in Windows 98? I'm getting
this error when trying to send email via a link to an email address on a
website, and Hotmail is my default E-mail program:

Server Error in '/' Application.

Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its
dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is
temporarily unavailable. Please review the following URL and make sure that
it is spelled correctly.

Requested Url: /secure/start

I looked in the registry in the location specified, but I didn't find any
REG_SZ values. Is this type of value unique to XP? If so, what's the
equivalent in Win98?

Thanks,

Raul

I also wasn't sure of the REG_SZ value, but I have windows 98. Here is
what I did. I went to regedit and navigated to
HKEY_LOCA_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\clients\mail\hotmail

and added a new string under hotmail. I called the string posurl and
set the value as http://hotmail.msn.com/secure/start

Let me know if you have any problems

Linda
