server error FP can't parse

I know this has been answered before but of course that was before I'd
ever seen the error message. I get something like "FP received a
response from the server that FP cannot parse" (words to that effect).

This happens after an otherwise successful publish -- at that point it
just seems to hang until I click "cancel".

What does this mean and how do I correct it?

TIA,

It is a generic error indicating the FP SE had a problem reconciling the online meta data or just timed out due to a server side
error
Check your hosts server logs for more details
- also look for info in the local FP logs (wecerr.txt &/or FRONTPG.log) in your default windows Temp folder

You may want to clear all FP temp files and stores web cache files before you publish again

I'm not using Sharepoint. It's not installed.

The exact error message is:

"The server sent a response which FrontPage could not parse. If you are
trying to connect to a Windows SharePoint Services server, check with
the server's administrator to make sure Windows SharePoint Services is
installed properly."

I am NOT using Sharepoint and it isn't installed on the server.

This could be firewall related issues. Check your firewall settings on your
local pc and the host server. Also visit:

FP dialogs, etc. refer to the Extensions as Share Point, as well.

Thanks, Tom and Thomas.

I don't think it's a firewall issue because I haven't changed anything
in months there and this just emerged a couple of days ago. However,
I'll check the links suggested...
