I'm not sure this is the right FrontPage group to post to; if not, please point me in a
more appropriate direction.
A few weeks ago, FrontPage stopped working. The problem is that any attempt to read my
files or update them results in a message that the "Server is busy". This makes no sense
for a variety of reasons.
First, I do not update my pages in-place on my Web site. My Web site is hosted by my ISP;
what I am updating is my local copy. I will later FTP the changed pages to the Web site.
So there is no network communication, servers, or any other nonsense involved. A simple
CreateFile should be sufficient to read a page or create a new copy.
If I go into HTML mode, copy the contents, and paste it into an editor, then do a "Save
File" from the editor, there is no problem writing the data back to the file. Therefore,
this is not an issue of loss of rights, or the file server on which I keep it being
unavailable, or any similar problem with the network. Pages are fully readable and
writeable except when using FrontPage 2002.
I do not run any form of Web server of any description on my file server. Therefore,
FrontPage should not be talking to any kind of "server" that could be "busy".
So what's wrong? I'm getting real tired of doing edits, entering HTML mode, copying the
contents out and repasting them, in order to do a save. When I was making some small
changes to a few pages, this got me through, but now I'm about to do some fairly heavy
modifications and create some new pages, and I would find the copy-paste situation
intolerable.
Why does FrontPage suddenly think it is talking to some kind of "server" instead of just
reading and writing the pages as any other program would do?
