I have been looking at this news group to find out how to setup up an alias
name for a server. Basically what I would like is to have is a server that
has two names. We use a product from Legato called Automated Availability
Manager (AAM) that is a lot easier to use if you have created an alias for
the server. Then when you install an application from that server you
would use the alias name in place of the actual name. This is helpful when
it comes to failing over applications.
I have tried the net name <name2> /add command and it will show up when I
do an nbtstat -n but i can not attach to the server via the added name. AM
I missing something?
I have read the KB article http://support.microsoft.com/?id=281308 but that
refers to doing some registry changes to allow you to add an additional DNS
entry for the same server.
Can anyone point me in the right diretion?
Thanks.
