How do I change the settings on a Windows Server 2008 machine to allow
it to run my .net programs to run off a network drive?

On XP I go to control pannel/internet option/internet properties/local
intranet and check automatically detect intranet network. This option
doesn't exist on server 2008.

Hi Chris,

What do you mean about "run .net programs to run off a network drive".

Actually I check in my Windows Server 2008, I can see the "Automatically
detect inranet network" option right there,
Control Panel->Internet Options->Security->Local Intranet->Sites->Local
Intranet

I check this on Windows Server 2008 SP1 and IE8.

Best regards,

In mine I go to Control Panel->Internet Options->Security->Local
Intranet->Sites-> and I have a box "Add this website to the zone:"
then I have a listing of "Websites:" hcp://system http://localhost
https://localhost and below that I have a checkbox that is unchecked
that says "Require server verification(https:) for all sites in this
zone" that's all on the local intranet tab.

Hi Chris,

I find on most of my test machine, this option is available except an XP
machine. The Internet Explorer on that XP machine is version 6. After I
upgrade to IE8, the "Automatically Detect Intranet Network" option is
there. So what's you IE version in that Windows Server 2008? Could you
please upgrade and try again.

It has IE 8 on it now but that didn't change what I get.

I did notice this page comes up when I start IE--I don't know if it has
anything to do with the problem or not:

"Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration is enabled
Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration is currently enabled
on your server. This configures a number of security settings that
define how users browse Internet and intranet Web sites. The
configuration also reduces the exposure of your server to Web sites that
might pose a security risk. For a complete list of the security settings
in this configuration, see Effects of Internet Explorer Enhanced
Security Configuration.

This enhanced level of security can prevent Web sites from displaying
correctly in Internet Explorer and restrict access to network resources,
such as files on Universal Naming Convention (UNC) shares. If you want
to browse a Web site that requires Internet Explorer functionality that
has been disabled, you can add the Web site to the inclusion lists in
the Local intranet or Trusted sites zones. For more information, see
Managing Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration."
