Thanks Robert, I've been reading most of the night, & I think I'm ready to try a fresh install, this machine was the domain controller & without it there is very little going on in the office! I will take care to check the names as I put them in.... fingers crossed. I did think it might be a virus, but this is a brand new hard drive with a fresh installation, also it's only real function is as a file server? Anyway I'll runa virus scan on the other systems just to be sure.

Windows Server 2003 Boot Disk failed (realy gone)
