The server boots and you can login but after awhile the console will lockup.
If you do not login the server will stay up and run without any problem. Can
boot to the safe mode. The event log does not show anything that could cause
a problem. While in the save mode I can scan for viruses , adware and spyware
and find none. But as soon as I restart and login (admnistrator) or anyone
else the console will lockup. If I do not login to the server I can login
from a workstation and still find the server and copy files back and forth
from it.

Any ideas on what could be the problem??

Thak you in advance for any ideas. I really do not want to reinstall the OS.
Win 2000 server sp4.

Sounds like a corrupted screen saver.

I can be using the server and it locks up. The screen saver function is not
trying to start. Thanks for the suggestion.

You might have a memory leak.

Bad graphics driver? Try changing the driver for an older or newer one?

Using Trident video board. It uses Windows drivers do not need to install
any video drivers. When in safe mode I removed the video driver and than
restarted to normal startup and still the computer locks up.

Memory leaks have nothing to do with faulty memory chips.
They are caused by a rogue application demanding increasing
amounts of RAM until the memory pool is empty. Leaky
applications can be identified by checking the figures in the
Task Manager over a period of time.

When you restarted the machine would've probably readded the drivers,
although there may be built in drivers for your graphics card often these
are not the only ones available, check out the manufacturers website for
specific ones.
