seriously annoying zip problem

hi there pros,

i am running windows xp, and for some reason, when i open a zip file
and try and drag the contents to my desktop, it just thinks and the
copying dialog pops up and then just disappears and the file doesnt
appear.

i used to be able to drag from zip files before, but now my drag out is
stuffed. it works if i click on the extract all thing. so i dont know
why the drag doesnt work.

pls help me!

windows update?
repair?
use 7-zip instead? http://sourceforge.net/projects/sevenzip/
