Serious XP Problem

I'm in a serious trouble with my OS. I upgraded my XP Home
with the Pro but am unable to activate it because
unknowingly the copy of the Pro has already been loaded in
another computer. MS Tech Support are unable to uninstall
the XP Pro. Letting the activation period laps will cause
my PC to be unusable and lose all my files. MS said for
the cost of another Pro license ($199.00) they are willing
to activate it. That is unsat with me cause I already
spent $99.00 for the Home Edition. Here's what I'd like to
do and I'd appreciate any inputs and/or comments.

I'll install a second HD and install my XP Home Edition on
that and make that my primary HD. I'll have no problem
activating that as it is the original system I bought. I
will then remove (via Add/Remove Program in control Panel)
the XP Pro from my present HD and then start transferring
files to my new drive. My OS will be back to XP Home
Edition which I started in the first place. Does anyone
see any problem with this approach?

Don

Yes, I highly doubt that you will find XP pro in the add/remove listings.

STOP!!I would like to suggest that you just do an upgrade
option with the XP Home and this should give you the
access to keep your system authorized by Microsoft. Also
it should keep all your data and files just as it did with
the xp pro when you installed it.Clean installs are what
you want and to get it all you have to do is make a backup
of your files you wish to keep and do a completely new
install not the "upgrade" of the OS you wish.First I would
see if you still have any previous restore points from
when you had the XP Home installed and just restore to one
of those if you have one left.

Mike:

I have a new 80 Gig HD ready for installation. I will load
my original XP Home in it. Question is: Do I remove the
old HD with the XP Pro and all my files and folders, or do
I just leave it (HD) in the PC as a secondary HD, remove
the XP Pro from it and copy or move the files to the new
primary drive. The bottom line is, is it OK to have two
drives, each with different version of XP, at least
temporarily. Boot up will be the primary with the XP Home.
I will then remove the XP Pro from the secondary. What do
you think?

Don

Do NOT leave the old drive connected while installing XP home on the new drive. Install it later and copy off what you need to the new drive.
