Microsoft just lost about 30% of its home consumer base with a decision that
I really hope they will reconsider. Anyone using a MS mouse for gaming and
has enjoyed for years now the ability to assign buttons 4 and 5 to standard
keyboard keys, or anyone who used the "keystroke" functionality of
Intellipoint 4.12 will be loathed to know that Microsoft took out that
capability in Intellipoint 5.0. Now you might say to yourself, why not just
go back to using 4.12 for gaming? No, that is not possible because the new
wireless mouse they sell is incompatible with 4.12. To make a long story
short, Microsoft rendered buttons 4 and 5 virtually useless to anyone who
really enjoys their mouse for gaming purposes. I hope my old mouse doesnt
die, because if it does, I will be forced to purchase a competitors mouse
because they understand the very large significance of this issue.
Anyone knowing of a workaround, or know that MS sees this is a serious issue
and plans on fixing it in future revisions PLEASE let me know.
