Two days ago my computer started slowing down
significantly. I restarted it and it then took a full 15
minutes to start up Windows (XP). Now, it does not
recognize Mircosoft Office and AOL. It takes about 2
full minutes for internet explorer to open, but once open
it works fine. I have checked my bandwidth to see if a
possible virus was replicating itself, but there is no
difference in my 2 day bandwidth record. I have checked
if there are other processes that are using my CPU time,
but it says that it is 98% idle. I have tried system
restore to two weeks agho, but it did not solve the
problem.

The error code that ocasionally appears is . .

BCCode : 9c BCP1 : 00000002 BCP2 : 805366F0
BCP3 : F6002000
BCP4 : 0000017A OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 1_0
Product : 256_1

Any help would be much appriciated.

Thanks in advance,
Suzy

Hey Suzy,

A 9C is an unrecoverable hardware error

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;329284

Looks like somethings going bad or you have a serious irq conflict.

Check the system event log for any hardware errors or timeouts.

start/run
eventvwr.msc

You could test your memory by downloading the windows memory diagnostic.

http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

This needs to be copied to a floppy. The system is restarted from the
floppy.
If it runs ok, the memory is checked and probably the cpu is ok

For completeness check all cables, make sure you have the correct 80 wire
cable for hard disks of speeds of ata66 and higher, and that all disks are
jumpered correctly as master or slave.

Try and narrow it down further.

Checkout the hard disk using the manufacturers diagnostics.
All leading manufactures have them on their website.
If the disk checks out, remove all the pci cards and start replacing them
one at a time.

To be on the safe side, you should run chkdsk on all you volumes.
