Serious AUDIO DEVICE problem; due to sp2 Microsoft update install.

Alrighty. I called Microsoft to get some help with my system restore. Was
having some issues with it; it wasn't working. The first time I downloaded
Windows XP SP2 from your website, my system restore disappeared. I called
Microsoft, they connected to me, and within a couple of hours it was fixed.
THEN, microsoft manually re-downloaded SP2 for me "AGAIN". As soon as we got
off the telephone, I realized that my AUDIO DRIVER was no longer working. My
drivers are all screwed up to no end. I cannot find any in my system that
work and when I try to redownload them from TOSHIBA (I HAVE A SATELLITE),
they are not updating or even redownloading properly. Microsoft did this to
me and I don't have a CD, it was a floor model and I never got around to
buying a restore disk. What Microsoft failed to realize is that TOSHIBA
SATELLITES CANNOT BE UPDATED WITH SP2. I am not the only one with a TOSHIBA
SATELLITE that has had this issue. A number of forums discuss this issue and
even some of the greatest hackers out there cannot figure this one out (it
seems easy to fix, but it is not). I believe there is something screwey with
my registry too.

Please help me, call me, connect with me, and fix your mistake.

My Toshiba Satellite 1900 with Win98 was updated OK by SP2
on line via Windows Update. BK seems to have been offered
some other route. In order to help, MVPs may need to know
precisely what the symptoms are. We know:
1. BK has no system CDs.
2. System Restore has disappeared from GUI menus.
(We do not know whether services.msc is on the hard drive)
3. There is no audio.
Does the PC otherwise start and function OK?

Microsoft provides the XP and not most of the "enhanced" drivers.
Most of the time, updating to SP2 will work. Sometimes, as you
noticed, some drivers do working with SP2. These are usually a result
of the "so called" enhanced "firewall" that SP2 installs and "insists"
on activating. The first steps to fix this is:

1) Check with the manufacturer for updated drivers. Have you
corresponded with Toshiba?

2) Try to "uninstall" the current audio devices in Device Manager and
Reboot your XP. XP is a "plug and play" (no PRAY) operating system
that can get confused with the drivers. By uninstalling the devices
in Device Manager and Rebooting XP, you are "trying" to get XP to
detect annd "resetting" the loaded drivers to the correct ones.

3) Check the BIOS so as to make sure that the "on-board" audio is
correctly enabled.
