Hello all
I’m using Microsoft MSCOMM activeX control and hyperterminal for RS232 in
several Windows systems.
Particularly in Windows XP when I connect to a Mettler scale and turn off
the PC and restart it again the serial ports disappear. Hyperterminal and the
MSCOMM control can't find the serial ports.
To recover from it is necessary to disconnect from power every thing, and
start the PC first, before the scale.
This behavior just happens in Windows XP.
Please anyone whith ideas of how can this problem be fixed.

Thanks a lot.

Thanks for your help , I did it but still happening, what is very unusual is
that this is not happening in W98 and W2000, just XP. It is happening in
different PCs as DELL, COMPACT and HP.
The serial programs works just fine connected to an scale, but when the PC
is turn off without turning off first the scale, and then when it is
restarted the COMM port appears to be used by other device and is not
available, so the hyperterminal and the programs which use serial comms fails.
To reactivate we discover to ways:
1. Turn off the PC, disconnect the scale and turn it on again and the
reconnect the scale.
2. Uninstall the serial port and install it again

Off course none of the solutions are practical.

I don’t know is anyone has notice this same behavior using XP serial ports?
