hi
i use a external 56k modem to connet to the internet. the modem is connected
to the serial port of the computer. when i turn on the modem and start winxp
everything works fine. but if i only turn on the modem when i actually want
to access the internet (windows allready running), i can't connect to the
internet because windows removed the modem from the device manager. the only
way i can force windows to recognise the modem again is by asking the device
manger to look for changed plug and play devices. is there an easier way
than that? with windows 98 i didn't have that problem.

os: windows xp + service pack 1a
modem: elsa microlink 56k fun

would be glad for any hint you could give me.

Is there no way to turn off that feature for a specific device?
Thanks for the answer anyway.

This is operating by design - NT OS (WinNT, 2k and XP) have always been this
way - this is what makes the OS more stable than Win9x OS's.

That's known as "sweet lemon" rationalization, or in MS terms, a
"feature". ;-)
