Cannot get certain kinds of serial devices to work in XP
is there a patch to correct this? Serial devices such as
Digital scales are not shown by windows xp in hardware
devices and constantly have to go into Accessability
options and and refresh the port to get it to work. This
scale works fine in windows 2k, need any answers or
insight folks may have regarding this. Also in hyper
terminal I can see the data coming down the pipe most of
the time there is garbage or extra characters being shown
so has to be a port issue.
Thanks
Rhett
P.S have tried USB to serial conversion works some of the
time but in many cases not much at all

Unless the scale came with drivers (unlikely) it won't show in device
manager.
See my reply to you're earlier post regarding the other issue.

The extra data, or garbage may be embedded status characters. These are
usually proprietary and need to be decoded with software. Mettler Toledo
scales for instance typically use a three byte header which consists of bit
level flags indicating motion, net, tare, gross, etc..
