Serial and Parallel HDDs

Just wondering, can most motherboards handle serial and/or parallel
HDDs, or does it have to say specifically? I have a little older ASUS
A7N Deluxe mobo, but not sure if it will handle a SATA drive.
 
OK, so I found my manual. I have teh A7N8X Deluxe model that has SATA
support. Ive only ever used IDE P-ATA HDDs (that's what I have right
now). Does the SATA even use an IDE connection, or do they just
transfer data with the 7 Pin SATA connectors on the mobo?


I want to buy a new SATA drive, and just wondering what I'm getting
myself into.

I have that motherboard and also the later "E" version. I put an SATA on it
for one of my kids. He had XP Pro OEM "0" ie: the first one that came out
before any service packs. I think sp1a first supported SATA. It was a PITA
to install and we had to call in since it was a replacement motherboard.
Another problem is if you dont have any other SATA motherboards then you got
to do all you rebuilding (if any) on the A7N8X. Make sure you got that
original floppy with the boot driver.

BTW, we were unable to run at 3200, had to crank it back slightly to keep
it stable and the memory for the dual channel was picky.

Yep.

It does give you more future and a better cable.
