I remember when I got my present Dell PC running XP I was invited to have
two accounts if I wished . I chose one for myself and one for my wife.
I soon realised that this caused problems with additional programmes and
updates if they were not carried out on each account so I reverted to one
named account.
My son has just done the same on his first PC and I need to tell him how to
revert to one name only
I don't know if this is an XP or a Dell instruction and cannot find any
reference to it.
Can anyone help me please.

Actually, you *don't* want to have just one account. You want at least
one user account and the built-in Administrator account. The latter
should be used only in an emergency. Your problems with programs were
either due to the way you installed the program (if you didn't make it
available to all users at installation) or by not knowing that you
could simply create a shortcut for all users. Since you didn't specify
the programs or updates, I can't address that in more detail.

If your son has made two *user* accounts and wants to delete one of
them, he should use the User Accounts applet in Control Panel.

Thanks for your help. Yes he has two user accounts.
It just seems an unnecessary complication unless it is required for security
purposes.
