Whenever I try to go to geocities.com I am sent to
a "white page: seach engine" site. When I try to open
any geocities web site I get the following error message:

Internet Explorer cannot download xxxx from
www.geocities.com.
Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet
site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot
be found. Please try again later.

The same site opens in the AOL window, so I know there is
a problem with Explorer. I have tried deleting all
temporary files, but the problem still happens.
Help!

Hi -

I had the same problem and I found out what to do in a forum I
searched for earlier today. Here's what they told everyone with this
problem to do:

Click Start, then Run, then type regedit and press enter. When Reg
Edit comes up, click Edit, then Find, and type White-pages. Delete
anything that comes up that mentions White Pages (But be careful not
to delete anything else).

Next you need to open C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc. In there, you
should see a file called hosts. Click it and when asked open it with
notepad. Delete everything under:

127.0.0.1 localhost

In most cases, its safe to delete everything under 127.0.0.1 localhost
as its just a load of adresses for adult sites and Geocities thats
cauing it to go to White Pages. When you've deleted it all, click File
and Save, then open Internet Explorer and Geocities should be back.

It worked for me. It should work for you too :)
