Sent messages routed incorrectly

Is anybody aware of any reason why a new message, created while a
particular folder was open, would route itself to that folder instead
of to the Sent Items folder? Replies and forwards of messages in that
folder also route themselves to that folder instead of to Sent Items.

I know the obvious place to look is the filters, but the user I'm
trying to help is resistant to looking at those. Could something else
cause these sent messages to be routed to another folder?

Click Tools>Options>E-mail options>Advanced E-mail Options and uncheck the
box labeled "In folders other than the Inbox, save replies with original
message"
