Sent items occasionally going missing

I have several users experiencing a problem where
occasionally mails they have sent are not appearing in
Sent Items and disappearing without trace.
This is an intermittent problem; the vast majority of
their sent messages are being filed in Sent Items as
intended. But infrequently a sent mail vanishes without
trace. An advanced search does not find the missing
message. No view filters or rules are in place to hide the
item.
The users are running either Office 200 or XP. Our mail
system is Exchange 2003 (migrated from 5.5) on a 2003
Standard server.
Any suggestions gratefully received.

Tim, apparently even I am experiencing the same problem
since March 31 afternoon. I tried moving all my Sent
Items to other folder so if it was folder size issue it
would be resolved. Nooop, that did not work either :(

None of the emails I send are registered in Sent Items.
I hope it's not another virus!

I am experiencing the same problem but in my case, nothing is being saved. It started happening early this week. And since then, nothing is saved on 'Sent Items folder. I have checked and re-checked my e-mails options to make sure 'Save copies of messages in Sent Items folder' has check mark. Any input is greatly appreciated. I am using Microsoft Office 2000 Professional.

I found the solution.

Sent Item folder in my MS Outlook 2003 had 7501 items and
was of size 939062KB. I created a new folder under
Personal Folder and Moved all Sent Items to new folder,
leaving my Sent Items folder empty.

Now Sent Items is keeping a copy of every email I
send. 'hope that helps.
