Hi all,

I have a user, who uses Outlook 2003 and is not part of our domain and
connects to our server with Outlook Anywhere (Please do not confuse it with
OWA. The settings can be found in the Account Settings > More Settings... in
the tab Connection). In addition, the user has a private POP account.

In the folder tree I have setup the Exchange mail account and a
Personal-folders set. All mails from the Exchange account and the POP account
coming into the Inbox of the Exchange account. The user would prefer to
receive the private e-mails into the Inbox of the Personal folders.
Therefore, I created a Rule on the Inbox to move all incoming e-mails from
the POP account to the Personal folders. This works fine and the user is
happy.

However, if the user sends an e-mail with his POP account the messages gets
stored in the Sent Items from the Exchange account. I tried to create a role
as well to move the Sent Item to the Personal folders, but this did not work.

Does anybody have a clue how I could get the sent POP mails stored in the
Personal folders Sent Items instead of the Exchange account?

Kind regards,

Simon

Whenever you mix POP and Exchange or have multiple POP accounts, all of the
default folders are shared. This is normal.

A rule WILL work and if you post what you've tried, we can tell you,
perhaps, why it doesn't work.

1. I went to "Rules and Alerts"
2. On the "E-mail Rules" tab I selected "New Rule..."
3. On the "Rules Wizard" I selected "Check messages after sending" and press
the next button
4. Then I ticked the box "through the specified account", selected the POP
account and pressed the next button
5. On the screen "Step 1: Select action(s)" I see only the choice "move a
copy to the specified folder". But there is no option to only move the
e-mail. I don't see a reason to store a message in two Sent Items boxes. I
would prefer if she would have only one copy of the mail in the correct Sent
Items.

I am aware that this issue could be easily resolved in Outlook 2007 with the
new ability to assign Personal Folders for each individual mail account.
However, I could not convince the user to upgrade yet.

I have the exact same issue - have my user set up the same way. In my case, I
have a mix of Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007 users. I can't resolve this.

In Outlook 2007, although it appears you CAN choose to have incoming mail
received on a specified POP account routed to a .PST file you designate
(instead of going into the Exchange store), the SENT item behavior seems to
still be same situation you say occurs with 2003. When I SEND a message
through that same POP account, it puts the SENT message into the SENT folder
of the Exchange mailbox account. I want messages sent through the POP account
to be filed in the SENT folder of the PST file, not the Exchange SENT folder.

I haven't tried to work around this on 2003 yet, either.

you need to use rules - disable the option to save sent messages in tools
options and create a rule for each account to move messages sent from the
acct to a specific folder.
