Does Front Page allow the builder of a site to keep a sensitive file - say a
mySQL connection access script to a database -outside of the web document
root so that it cannot be seen through a browser.

For instance, in a MS FP web - by default - I am given:

C:\My Documents\My Webs\a_site
_private \\this is a directory - this is within the FP web
images \\this is a another directory - ...and this is within the FP web

Any suggestions would be graetly appreciated.

No. However unless there is a link from a page or your site permissions are
broken, there would not be a way for anyone to see connection script as long
as you are using a server-side scripting language to connect to the
database.
