When I send a works file from my laptop (xp) to my
desktop (98), nd try to print it, I get gibberish. Isn't
xp compatible with windows 98? If not, what is the
solution. I do my work on my lapto and then email the
attached file to my desktop which is attached to my
printer. Thank for your help.

Windows XP and Windows 98 are operating systems and they
support and run application software such as MS WORKS or MS
OFFICE. WORKS is an integrated package and OFFICE is a
collected integration of stand-alone applications including
a word processor ( WORD ) and other application used in
business office tasks. WORKS is a single application with
modules to do tasks including word processing, basic
spreadsheet and database. (WORKS SUITE includes the full
version of WORD in addition to the WORKS word processor.)

You need compatible programs or a translation/conversion
program on each computer that can open and edit the files
from the other OR you need to save your files in a
compatible format. In either WORKS or WORD, when you save
or "save as" you have the option to set a file type using
the drop-down box. The default format is .doc in WORD and
..wps with WORKS.

You can get free plug-ins from MS to allow one program to
open files from another program. But to do this you can't
just double click the file, you must open the application
and then use the application to open the file. This will
begin the conversion process.

You can also "save as" .rtf (Rich Text Format) which is a
universal format that can be opened by just about any word
application. It will save most of the common formatting,
but not everything.
