sending .wav files

I copied a CD that my son recorded to my Windows Media
Player Library. It copied as a .wav file. I've emailed
that file to a number of family and friends. Most people
I've emailed the file to cannot open the file on any of
their music programs. In the most recent attempt, I got
a reply from a user that says the following:

"Big Brother doesn't like this file. Because it's a
Windows Media file (.wma), when I try to open it up, I'm
switched to a Microsoft website that tells me this file
has been shared by too many people on too many different
computers and I don't have the appropriate license to
listen to it. Unbelievable."

Why is this happening? What can I do to enable others to
listen to this music?

Use MP3 or AAC, and don't use copy-protection when ripping CDs.
