Sending via Yahoo smtp

I have been unable to send a message from Outlook using
my Yahoo plus POP (smtp server for sending) account for
about a week now, and I'm stumped. Error 0x800ccc0e.
All of my settings are in line with Yahoo's. I'm not sure
if it's a Port 25 issue, and I'm not sure how to work
around that if it is. There is an article in the
Knowledgebase regarding this error, but it is for
Exchange servers, which this is not. As always, I would
appreciate any help.

what did the article say? was it about authenticating with the SMTP sender so
it would accept the message? Does the message send if you try sending it within
10 min of failure? If you change authentication methods, does it work? (look in
account settings)

is about MSN as the ISP... but many ISPs do the same thing.

Thanks for your response. The article I mentioned was
here:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-
US;Q191687&ID=KB%3BEN-US%3BQ191687&

It's basically about how to check to see if port 25 or
port 110 are responding when you are using an Exchange
server.

My authentication settings are all correct, and sending
was fine for a long time prior to a week ago, which makes
me think the change was not on my end. The problem is
that I share an internet connection and can't
authenticate directly to the ISP server (if that's the
problem - I don't know if it is). I've been
authenticating to Yahoo in order to send/receive.

I don't know about waiting ten minutes. Is that a known
fix? I have my Outlook account set to send/receive every
minute.

Thanks again for your help.

first off, raise your check time to at least 8 min. If you send or receive a
large message that takes longer than a minute, you can hang outlook and it
creates an unnecessarily high server load to check mail that often,
especially with SWEN DoS'ing many servers.

when yahoo had free pop/SMTP for everyone, they required "pop before SMTP" -
and once you authenticate by checking for mail, you remain authenticated for
about 10-15 min.

check with your internet provider to see if they changed their policies for
using alternate SMTP servers.

I'm having a similar problem, and have spent nearly four
weeks trying to chase this issue down. I've been through
both email and phone queues from both Yahoo and Dell, and
am now wondering which support line to pay for... Dell's
software support, or Microsoft's.

The issue is either OS-related, or PC Hardware related (I
have no problems when using Outlook 2002 from a different
machine that is running Windows 2000 Professional.

Any other ideas running around out there?

I should add that the following error message is received:
"Task 'pop.mail.yahoo.com - Sending and Receiving'
reported error (0x8004210A) : 'The operation timed out
waiting for a response from the receiving (POP) server. If
you continue to receive this message, contact your server
administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'"
I've successfully pinged the server, no packets lost, and
have also run tracert, successful there too... any
thoughts considering those tidbits?
