Sending Signal

Well i would like to know if its possible to send some sort of signal form the server to the browsers
I have an chat, thus when i put a new message, i want to send a signal to the other computers thus the user can see the new posted messege. I now whot ot do this if a using an auto refresh in the clients' browsers, but is ther any other way
I was thinking i ould archieve this by saving the clients' ips to a database, and the sending the signal to browsers
Is it possible

Although you can't push to the browser, you might want to see if you can use
Windows Message via the APIs in the Messenger Service.
